Gross Receipt Tax on Businesses.
My opponent has proposed a gross receipt tax on businesses.
What is a gross receipt tax?
It is a reverse sales tax. The seller (business) pays the tax not the buyer.
After talking to some of the business owners and operators in our city I have discovered
the following. The tax rate provided by my opponent would be a business killing tax.
One business calculated the tax would cost them over $30,000 a year.
I visited several businesses in our city. Each calculated how much the tax would cost. Amounts from $4000 to over
$30,000 a year in extra taxes.
Would you locate your business in our city if there was a Gross Receipt Tax?
The last thing our city needs in these tough economic times is a business killing tax.

We all want lower property taxes. We all want to eliminate the water administration fee. But
taxing businesses is the wrong way.
My plan is to bring new businesses to our city. More businesses mean more tax revenue. If
the Downtown Development Authority recruits enough businesses we can eliminate the water
administration fee and work on lowering property taxes. My opponent does not even mention
the DDA in his platform. He has over 23 bulletin points. Not one mention of the Downtown
Development Authority. Does he plan to dismantle the DDA? What do we tell the over forty
(40) business associates and volunteers if the DDA is dismantled?
The Downtown Development Authority is actively recruiting businesses to our city. They
have active projects and hopefully some will come to fruition in the next six months. My
opponent has no plans for the Downtown Development Authority. What happens to these
active projects since he has no plans for the DDA? What happens to the businesses
considering our city if a gross receipt tax is enacted? What happens to our current
businesses? How many will leave?
I need your help to stop this proposed business killing tax.
I need your help in saving the Downtown Development Authority.
I ask for your vote for Mayor of Rossville.
Together lets stay the course of moving forward,
