FORGIVENESS
A tombstone in an old cemetery intrigued me. It had no name and no
date, just one word. That one word was FORGIVEN.
Forgiveness is the most needed and the least sought
after thing in the universe. It’s the most valuable and the least prized
among the possessions of the world. It’s provided for everyone, but only
a few accept it.
A Sunday School teacher asked her class, “What must we do to accept
the forgiveness of God?” “First,” said a boy, “we gotta’ sin.” That we
have done.
It’s natural for grass to be green, for sugar to be sweet, for birds to fly,
for fish to swim, and for men and women to sin. You and I naturally sin.
Sin has an effect upon us. It blights our bodies, maims our minds, and
separates our souls from the Savior. The most wonderful truth in the
Bible is that God forgives sin.
If you want clothes, you go to the clothier. If you want drugs, you go to
the druggist. If you want groceries, you go to the grocer. God and only
God deals in forgiveness. Why don’t you go to Him?
A dirty garment can’t cleanse itself, a diseased heart can’t heal itself, a
poisoned well can’t purify itself, and a soiled sinner can’t cleanse
himself. Only God can save and grant forgiveness. This forgiveness is
possible not because we deserve it, or have earned it, but because of God’
s groundless grace.
Have you accepted the forgiveness of God?
